Hi Lesley & David
I just wanted say we had a great time at your place last week. It was perfect!! Thank you so much for everything. Hopefully we can do it again next year.

Regards,
Matt

18th November 2011

Lesley & David,

Thank you so so so so so much for your help; the wine is to go in your cellar and be enjoyed some time in the future when you may think of that large bunch of internationals that came to Bordeaux for a weekend!  It was absolutely amazing, the house was wonderful and cozy and homey and great; the countryside wonderful; the wineries you organised for us were wonderful; and we couldn't have asked for anything more (except of course, more holiday time to spend there).  Don't be surprised if you see one or more of us again in the future - for longer next time.  It was such a wonderful weekend, we all came home very happy.

Best Wishes, and happy Christmas!

Dear David and Lesley

The place is amazing! My favourite part was probably the hot tub. I also really liked the pool and the trampoline. After two weeks Les Rossignols just felt like home, I really don't want to go home after such an amazing holiday. We loved going to Blaye & Cognac.

We will definitely come back!

and

Dear David and Lesley. I liked swimming and trampolining in the rain and feeding the donkeys apples. I liked St Emilion and the beach digging  a big hole in the sand.

25th June 2011

Dear David and Leslie,

We have all safely returned home from our vacations and wanted to write to you. We are hoping that you can somehow post this on your guestbook as feedback. We wanted to thank you for all that you did for us.

Last year in our Lesbian community we lost an amazing woman who was an environmentalist and beloved friend. While she was alive, we had often talked about journeying to Europe as a group to celebrate her 60th birthday.  The group that helped to care for her as she was dying would often chat about making that dream happen at some point in the future.  Initially, nine close friends decided to celebrate  our friend’s life as well as make certain to live fully ourselves, by coming for one week to your house. By the time of the trip this July, it was down to six gals who could actually make the journey.  Correspondence with David and Leslie during the months before the trip proved to be easy and helpful. They made certain to tell us how to get to the house, where we might find what we needed and when we actually arrived Leslie was there to greet us at the gate. From the moment she opened the gate, we felt well received. Leslie showed us around and familiarized us with the animals, grounds, and all the rooms within the house.

After having been in France for the previous week, we were delighted to see a washer and dryer. Additionally all of the accommodations (showers, dishwasher, stove, pots and pans and WiFi ) gave us great joy to be able to use. If there were things we needed (ipod speakers, or even garlic) our hosts took care of it on the spot.

Our first evening  there, they came over laden with snacks and wines to share to give us a proper welcome. This was repeated again as we ended our stay with them. Their gracious generosity was much appreciated.

The six of us could not get over how wonderful “our house in France” was, and our hosts. Close to our departure date, 2 of our members experienced travel difficulties. Leslie facilitated the necessary communication and paperwork to make connections happen. Also 2 of the 6 left early on Sat. to the airport, while the other four took a later  train to Paris. David graciously assisted in making the departure go off without a hitch.  We all adored staying  here, and recommend anyone who enjoys getting away from the bustling city come experience the pleasures of this cottage/home.

Fondly,

Shirley, Lori, Lorelei, Julie, Corky and Randi

5th June - posted on Trip Advisor

The house is, by far, the cleanest and nicest we've ever stayed in. Lovely, airy rooms, including one on the ground floor, which would be ideal for eg grandparents.

We stayed for a week in June: 2 couples with 3 small boys between us (6, 6 and 2).

As well as a practical open plan kitchen/dining/living area, there is a fantastic garden room, a games room (which is superbly well equipped with kids toys for all ages, arm bands, goggles etc as well as table tennis and table football) and another room with a hot tub/Jacuzzi which we all loved (kids included!).

The grounds are amazing... Completely enclosed and safe for the kids to run riot in. Lots of places for hide and seek, including huge bamboo and weeping willows as well as a brilliant trampoline and slide, which our kids couldn't get enough of.

The pool is solar heated and has a lockable/kid proof gate. It isn't too deep and is big enough for everyone to enjoy but feel safe in.

David and Lesley were fantastic hosts. Always there if we had a question and extremely obliging with advice and tips on what to see and do (not to mention the wine!). They managed to be informative, helpful and friendly without being pushy and we never felt anything but relaxed and happy in their company.

There are lots of animals at the end of the garden, which we enjoyed feeding and learning about. We got to see the sheep being sheared, collected eggs from the chickens, experienced how loud guinea fowl are when you stumble on them in the bushes and we nearly got to see a baby donkey. We waited all week for the impending birth and then it happened a few hours after we left! Lesley obligingly sent photos for us though!

The only negative is the name of the village, which is completely impossible to pronounce. Make sure you write it down to show people if you ever get lost or need to get a taxi!!!!

In summary, this is the perfect place for parents to relax and kids to have the time of their lives. Our holiday will be talked about and remembered for a very long time and we hope we will be able to come back again soon. We would recommend Les Rossignols to anyone - places like this that tick so many boxes are genuinely hard to find.

What an incredible place you have here. I feel like I've finally seen the real France since coming to Les Rossignols after first visiting Paris.

Bordeaux is breathtakingly beautiful and I will definitely be returning sometime in the future to enjoy more wine, cheese and local cuisine. The gite was luxurious and very comfortable place to relax for me, and the facilities outstanding (spa particularly!)

Thank you Lesley & David for  being such wonderful hosts. Truly a trip to remember.

What a week! your cottage is perfect for a family vacation. We are  Grandma, Grammpa, Mom and two girls 7 & 9. Natalie, the 7 year old spent most of the week talking to the animals. She and Sophie stood by the fence with the donkeys, sheep and goat for hours.  Not to mention the guinea hens.

****** she gives you 6 stars out of five.

We covered lots of territory from St Emilion, Bordeaux, Margaux and the great beach at Lacanau.

And we all loved the pool and hot tub.

Thank you for a wonderful stay.

This is an idyllic spot and your kindness as hosts had made is memorable indeed. We will miss all the animals and birds, the wine  and the swimming... and the tranquillity.

14-28th August

We have had a thoroughly lovely time here - a big family get-together  with 5 adults, three children and three generations.

The pool has been in use every day- one particular hot day the children four times in quick succession., as soon as they dried out they were straight back in again! The hot tub was much appreciated on the cooler days- not that there were many of those, as the weather hit 38° on some days.

We visited Bordeaux ( word of warning re tram car park, if like us you have a camper measuring 2.1m in height you won't fit in to the car park, so go to buy your tickets then park in the supermarket nearby.) - enjoyed the mirror d'eau, the musée de Beaux Arts, lots of colourful statues of cows(!)  and a great meal at a small friendly family run restaurant.

Blaye was also enjoyable - the children liked the fortified town. We also visited St Emilion & did the guided tour in English - the 11 am visit was quieter ( five of us) than the 2.30 one.

The dune of Pyla  is worth a visit if your legs are up for it - Cap Feret & Porg - Ocean better if you are feeling feeble!

Many thanks to Lesley & David  who make fine hosts - thank you for the wine, eggs, & the trip to the local cave. Hope the family-tree research continues well, Lesley!

Hooray! I like being here and I don't want to go.

Alexander.

I liked being in the hot tub  & the swimming pool. I liked the animals & I painted a monkey.

Charlotte.

To David & Lesley

Thank you for letting us stay. It has been great. I loved the pool and the hot tub. We all had a fantastic time. While we were here we did a lot of things like the beach, canoeing , market ( St André) the town Blaye, St Emilion and Bordeaux. Our favourite thing had to be the canoeing. When we went canoeing Mark ( dad) went down the weir three times and at the weir Joe fell over and hurt his wrist.

Thanks you very much.

Dear Lesley

Many thanks once again for the warmth and hospitality you and David showed us.

We had an absolutely wonderful holiday and were very relaxed in the give and grounds. The children are still talking about Kiraz the goat and Jack and Rosie. In fact, Lily reminded me at dinner tonight that she liked eating carrots, just like the donkeys.

We have returned with many lovely memories of Les Rossignols and also of our time in the beautiful Gironde.

All best wishes,

Hi Lesley and Dave

Thanks for the knowledge of Bordeaux we really needed it. We loved the animals, they are so cute and the garden was out of this world! I'm so going to miss it.

From Maya, UK

We had a really relaxing fortnight at Les Rossignols. The children have been enthralled by the animals  and enjoyed playing in the garden every day. We also really enjoyed using the swimming pool in the sunshine.

Thank you, Lesley & Dave for your hospitality and help whenever we have needed anything - we have appreciated it.

Sanjay and I have explored the area on your bicycles - as well as going to Peujard for bread + croissants every morning. We have cycled over 100 miles including a 23 mile round trip one day down to the river at Port Neuf and back.

Although we have spent most of our stay in the locality, we have managed day trips to Bordeaux (the fountain in front of La Place de La Bourse is stunning),  St Emilion (touristy, but v scenic), and Blaye ( we had an excellent lunch at the Petit Port restaurant). We also visited Chateau Bertinerie nearby at Cubnezais - this is a very smart chateau with modern wine making facilities and excellent wines. We turned up without making a prior appointment, were welcomed with a tasting and explanation of the chateau's various wines by one of the brothers who own the château. We then asked (more in hope than expectation) to see the "chais", and were given a tour of the wine making facilities, which was fascinating  - definitely worth a visit.

The end of an era after 10 seasons of both families coming here  this will be the last with the children now they have grown up.

This was our last holiday here as a big family group. We have holidayed here for ten years and each one has been fun, interesting and very relaxing ( 'm not sure if it was relaxing for Lesley & David!) Over time Lesley & David have become good friends and and our children have been lucky enough to enjoy the freedom, space and all the different animals.

We have loved it here & and our children have all the lovely memories  to keep with them.

For the last time I shall thank you. The holiday was lovely and relaxing, something I really needed. You'll be pleased to know that you're glass contents are all going to be safe from now on! I won't end this by wishing you luck in the future because you don't need it, you have already got the skills, ambition and kindness to go where ever you wish to be taken.

Dear Lesley and David

Now I'm back in Cornwall I can only look back with fond memories of my stay with you both in Gauriaguet. After years of holidaying in France it is so nice to find a house which surpassed my expectations - roomy, light, cool and sparkling clean. The weather wasn't always kind during my stay but your warm welcome (and perhaps the lovely wine) more than made up for the sun's absence. You are perfect hosts with a lovely property which I will not hesitate to recommend to friends and family.

Thank you for making the holiday so enjoyable.

Hi David & Lesley

Would just like to thank you for your warm hospitality.  We have a wonderful relaxing holiday.  Les Rosignols is like a 'home-from-home' with all the facilities you could wish for.  We loved+ Jack and Rosie and the chickens who pecked at the door for food and attention.  This was just our type of holiday accommodation - a get-away-from-it-all place with beautiful gardens, heated pool, peace and solitude.  The jacuzzi was the icing on the cake.   Hope to make a return visit some time next year.

Once again, thanks for a fabulous holiday.

Take care.

Hi, David and Lesley

We are now back in Canada but Dagmar and I loved being in Bordeaux   France.

Your location and accommodations were wonderful. We were able to  travel to and fro easily.

I enjoyed the wine region with its beauty and spectacular chateaux  mansions. Visiting the caves, chatting with the vine merchants and making  purchases of some of the finest wine anywhere in the world is a real treat for us.

Your house offered a relaxing atmosphere with many emanates. I would  have loved to try out the hot tub and the trampoline, but time was the enemy and it will have to wait   until next time.

If it was not for your adventurous spirit we would not have enjoyed  such a wonderful place.
Thank you and we look forward to returning in the future.

Second visit this year and the first time we have been "out of season".

We have had a brilliant, relaxing stay greatly enhanced by the warm of welcome and friendship of David, Lesley and of course Clemmy the retriever. The autumn colours as we have driven round have stunning and worth a visit in themselves. We have enjoyed the hot tub  perhaps more than on summer visits, really relaxing at the end of the day.

Had two wonderful meals at La Renaissance which has new chef who served super food.

So thank you again La famille Proctor for a great two weeks. Well hope to see you soon.

Thanks to Lesley & David we've all had a lovely relaxing holiday. The weather wasn't too bad in the end. We've discovered the wine of Bordeaux  and will never drink the "New World Wine" rubbish again.

The animals kept the children occupied and the hot tub went down a treat.

Our last night we went to La Renaissance restaurant in Marsas, a must visit for anyone. The food was fantastic.

We will definitely be coming back but next time will be a summer visit.

See you next year.

Thanks David & Lesley for a great visit that was enjoyed by all - Danish, Swiss, Americans and kids! The trampoline and pool (and hot tub) were all favourites.

Thanks also for making Mallory's 3rd birthday extra special. I'm sure it's a story that will be told for years.

For other guests we recommend you visit the restaurant Le Bord d'eau (Fronsac) it's much better than La Tupina!

Also if you're looking for a driver to get you to some private vineyards, look for André Faber's card on the buffet.

Thanks again!

What a lovely holiday we have had despite the mixed weather - The kids have had great fun (Josh 10, Elisha - 8 and baby  Joseph -1). They loved the animals and asked if they can get chickens, a goat and a  donkey as soon as they get home!!

The gardens are really lovely and the atmosphere of the gite is great - We're sad t ob e going home tomorrow.

We all went to Marsas last night for a meal to the restaurant formally known as   "la Renaissance" - 20 euros for 3 courses, 14.50 Euros for 2 courses - great hosts- very friendly and helpful - we recommend  you go!! Bargain!

PS I'm also very impressed with the baby equipment that Lesley & David    supplied - brilliant.

We have been here so many times it's like a second home. The children have grown up here. We all really feel at home and relaxed here. David & Lesley are fantastic hosts and friends. We always have a great laugh here. The hot tub, garden room, table tennis, pool and air conditioning are all used       and are great facilities. We have had fantastic weather this year which is great because at home it 's been awful.

Drank loads, eaten loads and laughed loads, with great hosts who can ask for more!

I think I learn a lot every time I visit this place. It's more than a holiday for me, it's a reunion. Everyone gathers and loves the company.  Thank you  for your company and your support about everything

You  two are why all of us come back - the icing on the cake I should say. Don't   get me wrong though, I love the place too! I just love seeing it expand every time we go back.  You both never stop trying to improve the visitors' stay. This year it was the donkey's which was brilliant, and at times  rather amusing, addition!

The weather was great as well, at least we got two weeks of summer, being away from England and all.

I think I can speak for all of us when I say  we all had an excellent time with laughs we can never forget. I just hoper we are good guest as you are at looking after   us!

David & Lesley you are our brilliant friends, have a great year!

An Excellent Family Retreat

Les Rossignols is an excellent family retreat with jacuzzi, heated swimming pool, games room, attractive large grounds and friendly animals, so there is plenty to do whatever the weather!

The property is very nicely presented, with friendly owners next door. It is also in a very pleasant rural location, but only 30 minutes from Bordeaux and close to the coast.

I would highly recommend this property for a relaxing retreat, or for families with younger children especially.

Veel te doen rond het huis en daarbuiten veel te zien en te beleven. Vooral Bordeaux was geweldig. Jullie waren onzichtbaar aanwezig en beschikbaar met raad en daad.

Dank, familie Wuite

Dear Lesley and David. Thanks for your hospitality in your beautifull Gite. We and the children have enjoyed ourselves very much. Much to do around the house and much to see and experience in the surroundings. Especially Bordeaux was great. You were invisible present and available for advice or help.

Thanks, Wuite family The Netherlands.

12th April 2008

David & Lesley,

I just wanted to to say how we enjoyed our stay at Les Rossignols last week and we really hope we can return in the future. The gite was so comfortable and spacious it made it a pleasure to come back to every evening after our daily excursions and the added bonus of the hot tub was a real treat. We certainly feel we got the best out of all the facilities on offer despite the weather!

Both the boys had a fantastic holiday and were very sad to leave last Friday. They are missing all the animals, particularly the goats who they became very attached to, and along with Jeannette wanted me to say goodbye and thank you.

We wish you both a very successful 2008 season and will look forward to seeing you again.

Best wishes,

Chris, Jeannette, Matthew and Oliver

Property is excellent, with all facilties, and as described on the web. HIgh standard, clean and well maintained throughout with lovely gardens in which to relax. Additional pleasure of feeding and watching the various animals. Located in a clean and tidy rural French village that is enjoyable to stroll.

Great for our Spring break with a variety of things to do and places to see. Shopping in Bordeaux, bracing walks along vast stretches of sandy beaches and watching the huge waves and surfers.

Good central location for visiting ancient towns and villages such as St. Emilion where you can lunch in the Old Square and wander through cobled lanes amongst medieval buildings. (Local baker makes the best tasty macaroons ever !). And don't forget the local markets with fresh produce, honey and cheeses..

Fill your car boot full of wine ! Enormous pleasures to drive round to different Chateux/Caves to sample and purchase local wines, far superior to one's own local supermarket plonk yet reasonly priced !

David & Lesley were excellent hosts, not only at the property, but in offering their local knowledge of wine co-operatives and places to visit. They also advised the best restaurants for miles around, ranging from a pleasant informal lunch to a delicious high-quality French cuisine evening experience.

Ideal for small or larger groups at any time of year.

Highly recommended.

We'll go again !

Thanks David & Lesley, we have had a fantastic holiday. The facilities are so good at the cottage that the children (3 + 6 ) couldn't wait to get back to play whenever we went out for the day. Highlights of the places we went were St Emilion, Dunes Du Pyla, Bataille De Castion, Bordeaux.

David & Lesley have been perfect hosts, always helpful and friendly, you made us feel very welcome and at ease in your lovely home. Thanks for taking us to the Bordeaux match David!

All in all, a fantastic break in a lovely place.

Dear David & Lesley,

Our eighth visit has been as wonderful as the first. We have now spent 16 weeks in your company since we started coming here!! (Poor you) Once again you have been great hosts and even better friends. Thank you for the best two weeks of our year.

It seems that stray animals, especially cats, turn up when we stay, but this year it turned out to be a goat!! I wonder if it's sign.

Heya David & Lesley

So here I'm writing in the book wondering what to put - I bet you are waiting for your compliments and yes that is what I will deliver because you both truly deserve it! The place is amazing with the pool, the grounds, the animals and the laughs! And congratulations because you managed to satisfy a hormonal teenage time bomb -  I'm not just speaking for Rachel, I'm speaking for all of us - we have had a wonderful time and I am saddened to think this could be the last time I come. There is something very special about this place and I believe a huge part of that is because of you both and the fun you provide us with.

I may see you n ext year, but if not it's been amazing.

Holly xxx

This year had been great like all the rest. Thank you for all the dog walks you took me on  I really enjoyed those, thank you for the raclette that was very nice. I am glad to see how Trebee is doing and all the other animals. Thanks for letting me cook the BBQ and to sum up thanks for another great holiday.

26th May -2nd June 2007

We have had a lovely relaxing week here, despite the rather changeable weather. This is our third visit here & this is the first time we have actually have had to go out and fill our days because the weather, this time of year has normally been fantastic. But at the end of the day whatever the weather, our children (5 between us) have got so much here to keep them occupied - the garden, pool, animals, hot tub, trampoline ( computer on the last day when we finally told them it was here!) that this at the end of the day is what makes a holiday a holiday! We have relaxed, drank good, cheap  nice  wine from the local vineyards & eaten good meals cooked in a well stocked kitchen, on a nice peaceful patio! (you can probably tell I'm halfway through a bottle of claret now!)  (I'm writing this the night before I leave, not the morning of our departure!!

Anyway, thank you again David & Lesley for providing a truly peaceful retreat for all us busy people who just need some r & r to truly enjoy.

See you again soon,

27th May - 2nd June 2007

Me & Louis liked feeding the goats, going in the hot tub and swimming in the pool, playing table football, practising ping pong, chasing the chickens, lizards, lizard hunting, playing football and cricket and going on the slide, swings and trampoline.

See you soon.

12th May -26th May 2007

The  holiday, like all good things has come to an end. And just as we all were settling into the French pace of life. The gite has been the perfect place to relax, explore, swim & interact with nature. Even the first week's weather is a distant memory after the glorious second week. + Clemmy.

We can't thank David and Lesley enough for being there (or not being there) if you know what I mean! They seem to have mastered the art of inconspicuous presence.  The house we can say has good access for a wheelchair as Rebecca has found this holiday. The internet access and Skype have proved a welcome addition to our holiday especially when planning days out or comparing how much warmer it is here compared to home. That's always nice!

We recommend Arcachon, the dune of Pilat, Lacanau Océan + Blaye for days out. Also if in Bordeaux for a visit we found a great English books shop "Bradlys" on the cours d Albret if you've chilled enough but have forgotten to bring a book!

The children enjoyed the pool, hot tub, the animals including walking Clemmy round the village.

It's hard to believe we have just one more night here before it's back to reality.

Thanks for a great holiday.

The Wright family.

12th May -26th May 2007

Being Nana of the Wright family, I came along to enjoy a restful holiday - it's been that and more. The animals have been a delight and having the children here with me has de-stressed me no end. I found myself reliving my mischievous  years once again and doing things and activities I thought  were beyond me. Found myself on more than one occasion lining up with the kids for a telling off!!!

First week not so good weather-wise but plenty to do.... second week glorious and I feel envious of David & Lesley's lifestyle. I think I could easily adapt to this with visits from my family.

The hosts have been great and obvious animal lovers which warms you to them ( well me certainly)

The accommodation was roomy and well adapted for a wheelchair user which has made it so much more enjoyable for my daughter Rebecca.

Computer and Sky TV a bonus - saved me taping programmes at home which even I cannot miss.

Whilst going home is inevitable and all good holidays come to an end, I feel revitalised,     refreshed and ready for the every day commitments home life brings.

Thank you David & Lesley

I hope you remain as busy and successful in the future.

Dear Lesley & David

First of all, very many thanks for your help in organising this very memorable trip before we even got here! However, I hold you wholly responsible for the fact that I never got to see  Bordeaux itself. Les Rossignols was so beguiling we couldn't bear to leave to garden and head into the city!! Especially in that wonderful weather.

Les Rossignols was a wonderful choice to hold an extended celebration  for Brian's 50th. Everyone had a great time. I for one can't wait to come back - hopefully for a longer stay next time. Rest assured that I'll recommend both you and your beautiful house / garden to everyone who's prepared to listen!!

In fact we still were sitting out till very late; Of course Dave & Lesley were the perfect hosts and this is our fifth visit to this little piece of paradise. The computer has been so useful for us to get about and discover Bordeaux , which is one of the most Beautiful  paces we have visited. We have been very happy here and we have had some lively debates with Dave & Lesley over many a lovely bottle of wine.

26th August - 16th September

The drawing opposite belongs to the families of the previous two weeks - as our two little drawers had wanted to draw the trampoline which they loved - but left it too late on the 4th of September to draw in the book and make cards for aunty Kim's birthday.

This is our third and longest stay so far and we have been lucky enough to enjoy the company of our grown up family during the three weeks.  Karen, Marco and their children live in a 4 storey apartment and enjoy getting out into the garden and fresh air at will. The trampoline was a huge success as something new.  They managed to swim most days and as there were plenty of adults Milly age 5 years was almost a swimmer and very reliable with her rubber ring. Baby Jakie 2 1/2 sat in style in an inflatable boat - there was always some to pull him along; Hannah, 6 years 11 months is already pretty reasonable at swimming. As 12.9.2006 I write this we know they are back home and have completed a week at school. Luckily the new teacher is a complete princess  and Hannah's teacher is confident  he has a class of super stars - so all the pre term angst is over.

During their stay ( at Merignac) they found a children's play areas indoors which helped on the rainy day; and a visit to an impressive chateau De Bouilh which must have had an interesting history, but their English was restricted to being able to take our entrance fee - there was not even a brief history translated. However, the afternoon was not wasted as we bought some bottles of red wine - which were pleasant. Karen & Marco celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary at La Renaissance restaurant - whilst we watch the children. During week two Kim had her birthday - which was mainly at breakfast with a decorated chair  small Childs tiara and  of pressies. Their explorations found  Angouleme interesting but closed on a Monday. They had lunch at La Plaisance restaurant in Bourg and we all went for the evening meal on Monday evening which we all enjoyed; During the second week we had lunch at the Christolly lac and went back for the evening; Three of us enjoyed lunch at St Emilion - a cellar istro where we were well looked after.

The final few days had the five of us visiting Remy Martin at Merpins. The tour was good & we enjoyed the tasting and made some purchases. The next day was wet our penultimate day, bright, breezy & noticeable cooler.

It has been another lovely holiday - we have seen everyone relax and unwind, then set off with renewed energy;

Another enjoyable stay - thank you David & Lesley.

From Mike & Margaret and family.

A last minute discovery by the Newton contingent, visit La Saye restaurant at Galgon. Lovely setting, good food, excellent service a pleasant end to our holiday. Only took 15 minutes even in the pouring rain. Luckily out training run for greet eastern run,  helped navigate back to the cottage.

This is our sixth visit and we are already booked up for next year. We love this place and consider David & Lesley as friends as well as wonderful hosts. Another kitten has arrived (2 in six years) very feral and small, luckily someone saw it as it went into Chris's engine, could have been minced cat!!!.Lesley managed to catch it in a 2 hour traumatic mission in which blood was spilt ( not the cats).

I've never before realised that there would be a place   where you can see  a feral fighting kitten, a guinea fowl that can say "buckwheat" and a cannibalistic chicken ( she, Peck,  ate some chicken curry!) and have the time of your life at the same time! And David & Lesley of course are one the the main reasons we also keep coming back! We have practically grown up here! Its been amazing and I thank you.

Thank you David for your hospitality, your company and for all your good advice. We all enjoyed our time here, although it did seem at times to be too short. The two weeks we were here seemed like 4 weeks because we enjoyed it so much.

Your website and green folder were excellent aids which we used to our advantage and they enhanced our holiday. We thank you as well for arranging the lovely weather, I don't think it's been below 30°c this past fortnight. The champagne was lovely and probably accounts for my fragmented scrawl. Dear Lesley and David,

Thank you once again for sharing your lovely home with us last week and for for your generous hospitality.  We all enjoyed ourselves and it is lovely that, as well as having rural France on the doorstep (not to mention chickens, sheep and goats!) all the mod cons are there to provide a relaxing holiday.  We enjoyed more meals in than we normally do on holiday, simply because all the facilities are there - microwave, dishwasher etc. and we had fun making crepes, fish dishes and steaks - with eight of us the clearing up was done very quickly.  Even trying to work out where to put all of the rubbish became a game!  We hope you have nice guests all summer and enjoy good weather (its turned hot here now) - we look forward to our next visit.

Everyone sends their best wishes,

Thank you both for such a memorable stay in your gorgeous cottage. We wanted to get away over the Christmas holidays, to relax and chill out & this is exactly what we got here. We have totally unwound and are going home after 5 days feeling so relaxed and thankful that we have had the experience of staying here and meeting you. The highlight of each days has been feeding your gorgeous goats & being greeted by the chickens, especially for George who at  2 1/2

thinks that all furry white animals are like his Westie dog "Millie"! For him it's been like a little home away from home.

Thank you so much for all your help with the car, we hope you know how much we appreciate it.

Thank you very much for a very, very relaxing vacation. The kids loved feeding the goats grass, mint and dandelions. The hot tub was a favourite nearly every night. Your written directions to restaurants, boulanger and Géant were indispensable for finding our way around. It was a very central location for visiting St Emilion, the Bay of Arcachon and Bordeaux. We absolutely LOVED Chateau de La Rivière? What a gorgeous fairytale castle.

These friendly creatures are much more trouble than the German Shepherds and Bull pits that bark from behind closed gates. To those who go for walks they can attach themselves to you for miles, ruin your picnic. Technique non detachment.  Walk into hamlet with lots of other dogs thus distracting your  new friend.

We have had a lovely time.

Had a lovely time, the pool was marvellous and our 2 year old now wants one in the garden at home to practise his diving. The outside area is the best feature of this house, lots for toddlers to do and places to escape to!!! (and lots of potential for den building)

See you again!

This place was exactly what we needed with young children as there was so much to do outside - animals, swings, pool, exploring under bushes etc. Now that the weather's perked up, we could do with another week...

What can we say except thank you!

Your hospitality was wonderful, the wine you greeted us with super & the freshly laid eggs were a rare treat.

This house is truly a little peace of paradise, the kids (and us) loved the pool, the garden, the garden room - EVERYTHING.

The goats and chickens enjoyed all our leftovers!!( bread & croissants).

Le Porge is the best Atlantic beach we've ever been to and well worth a trip (tip -take some shade with you if you visit!)

La Renaissance in Marsas is excellent value for money; good food & lovely staff.

We have really enjoyed your little bit of paradise in France. We'll miss the pool & the late night hot tub!! We very much hope to come back soon.

19th August 2005

Thanks David & Lesley for a lovely  holiday, we have really enjoyed ourselves. The weather has been great (though we feel sorry for the poor frazzled garden!) and the children have enjoyed the animal life, particularly the goats *(thanks for letting them into the pen to feed them). I will let you know what becomes of the fleece!

We particularly enjoyed the pool, with at least two swims most days - the kids probably have webbed feet by now.... Other highlights included St Emilion and Chateau de La Rivièrre (very beautiful, and an impressive tour of the caves and opportunity to taste the production ( and buy some!))

We also liked the tram into Bordeaux, a fun and convenient way to visit the city, and also god value.

* Also the lizards and green frogs!

Thanks for your hospitality and help, hope you get some rain soon (but not too much for the next guests' sake!)

To David & Lesley

This is my best holiday ever, the goats are fluffy and fun to play with. Me and my friends feed them leftovers like bread and pastry. The swimming pool's fantastic! Once we went swimming in the night  and turned the lights on, it was amazing. The field is great to play things like tag and hide and seek. I've had lots of fun and I have never got bored, there are lots of things to do and I've had lots of  fun making dens in the twin bedrooms  and finding new things out. I have learnt to swim and play ping pong, table football and riding a baby's bike in  8 laps around the breakfast table. Well by for  now, I've had the greatest 2 weeks ever.

Love from

Sophie Jones.

Dear David & Lesley

I have really enjoyed my stay here, it has been really  fun. I love the goats they are so cute! The pool was great especially in the dark with all the lights on! The games room is fun, I enjoyed playing ping pong. The bedrooms were really nice for playing games.

Thanks you so much!!!

Dear Lesley & David

This is the 5th year we have visited the villa and we are still having the time of our lives with you and this amazing place. I enjoyed the Bordeaux trip on the tram! I have never been on a tram before! It was  loads of fun and Bordeaux is a beautiful city and the meal was also great, even  though the tram broke down! We still enjoy the animals and are happy to see the new guinea fowl. Thank you for the pizza and the barbecue, you are the best owners of a villa we've ever had and can't wait to see you next year.

Dear Lesley & David

We enjoyed our journey at your place very much! The swimming pool (what a nice temperature, 30° Celsius!!)

The barbecue (our kitchen 2 weeks long!), the Jacuzzi. For the kids plenty of space in the garden to play. Great! The croisseur "Colbert" is interesting to pay a visit at. You can combine it with a walk at the nice town of Bordeaux. St Emilion, Arcachon: beautiful place to go. We  loved tasting ( and of course buying) the wines in your good company David!

Being Belgians, we were happy to introduce "Duvel" beer! You liked it David, isn't it?! they sell Duval at Geant, go for it!

Finally whenever you come to Belgium, tell us, it will be our pleasure to guide you: Brussels, Gent, Bruges, Antwerp. Thanks again & very best regards from

 25th June -9th July

As before we have had a brilliant two weeks holiday. There is something for everyone - two little girls (4 & 5)  loved the pool, the animals, the  swings .....whilst parents and grandparents had a great time enjoying the pool, animals and  the spa bath.....it is a tad repetitive to mention the wonderful hospitality of Lesley & David and it is probably encapsulated by the friendliness, the helpfulness and of course the welcoming wine.

We have already booked for next year and put down a request for the year after. Nuff said.

If you are looking for a child friendly restaurant we would recommend the  Renaissance at Marsas. Despite having the aforesaid 4 & 5 year olds we also had a 15 month Jakie. The kids were made welcome, toys were found for Jakie, the girls were taken to choose their ice-cream by the proprietor. And the food was excellent.

So thanks again David & Lesley from all of us.

Margaret & Mike Newton.

Guinea fowl make great alarm clocks! Thinking of investing in a pair when we get home, we'll miss neurotic Harold and his missus!

Thanks for a lovely holiday.

To Lesley & David

Thanks you very much for a lovely holiday! The pool was the centre of our fun and even though it was freezing we warmed up in the hot tub. Bordeaux is a fantastic city if you get the chance to visit it, great architecture and posh shops. Unfortunately we didn't go to the sand dunes but we have heard that it is interesting. Jonzac - The swimming pool at Jonzac is OK but I would advise to go in the afternoon due to the expensive prices in the morning i.e. 5 persons for a morning swim came to 40 €!

You really have made our stay pleasurable and now have a clearer picture whether we want to move to the region.

Best wishes in the future.

From the Australian contingent

This is our last stay /port of call in France.

We have spent a wonderful month going from Brittany  down to the Dordogne area, further down to the Pyrenees, including a visit to Barcelona, and lastly just a few short days here.

What can we say that hasn't already been written? Lesley & David are wonderful warm hosts - we enjoyed drinks and conversation with such friendly helpful people.

Sadly as our tour leader said "we're too old to enjoy the spa and communal bathing." But the concept is excellent! Ah ....youth, what a pity to waste it on the undeserving young.

The main bedrooms are lovely and we felt this little touch of luxury  gave us a much needed rest before our trip to London and the

Loved the chooks / animals/ black hens etc. Hated the mad French hunters killing off the few remaining birds / deer left in the woods. We also found Blaye and St Emilion both interesting and delightful.

Thank you for such a restful peaceful lovely stay.

We will return!

A convenient location for exploring the region and Bordeaux; The tram park and ride takes all the hassle out of parking - well signposted when you take the exit for Lormont. The citadel at Blaye was amazing - even in the rain! We shopped at the Le Clerc at Carbon Blanc - just off the dual carriageway - it was convenient and had everything.

Thank you for your kind welcome David & Lesley  and especially for the first shop - made arriving on a Sunday much easier. Wish we had known about your place when the children were younger - they would have loved it.

Thanks for putting up with the children!

What is a hoopoe, or however you spell it?!! If it sounds like a peacock then we have heard it several times!!

The weather has been mostly good and we have enjoyed the pool and the lovely hot tub.

We have spent most of our time just chilling out after what has been a hectic first half of the year, but the Battleship at Bordeaux and st Emilion are a must. The dune was excellent even in the midst of a rain shower, but a few too many Brits for us!!

The two weeks have flown by and we are not thrilled to be returning home!!

Thanks again for your tolerance, help and company at the BBQ, it was lovely to spend time chatting with you both. The wine in the fridge our arrival was a lovely touch and much needed!

I have been in the pool every day this year; We all were in the pool at 1.00 twice; I liked watching the sheep get shaved but the bad thing was Sophie got her hoof cut off (trimmed. I've loved it this year thanks for the dog walks.

Once again Lesley & David we have loved staying with you. The house is fab and so is the weather. We have seen the Hoopoe but only at the beginning of our stay so we wonder if it doesn't like the hot weather!!

Your kindness & wonderful hospitality are very much appreciated and David, thanks so much for taking us wine tasting, it was fascinating and not a little   tasty  first thing in the morning! we enjoyed visiting Blaye on your recommendations and St Emilion was beautiful as is the countryside between here and there (we got somewhat lost but didn't mind a bit as each diversion was so picturesque!) So thank you both so much & we hope to see you again soon. Loved the chickens & goats too,+ your eggs!

All best. Michaela & Alan Walker

Here again. I am sure that you must be getting bored of us by now, but never mind we will be back in May!!

Had a fantastic time even though the girls didn't go in the swimming pool. Had some great nights, with Lesley & David including New Years Eve twice (French times and English).

Not too sure about the English TV, my husband spent quite a bit of time checking it out though!

The girls loved the dogs as usual, especially the new arrival "Clemmy". They weren't sure about the killer chickens, until we told them they don't eat children!

Lots of love to you both and see in May.

Julie, Neil, Paris     & Gabriella Cheetham - Worksop, England.

Thanks Lesley & David for a wonderful holiday time (yet again.) It has been grea. The weather wasn't brilliant but as we can tell from the TV it's better than in England.

29th January 2004                                                          20/12/03 -30/1/04

Arrived 20th December with Julie, Neil, Paris & Gabby our fifth time here, just gets better! Had a great Christmas & New Year which we saw in with Lesley & David & friends. After Julie, Neil and the girls left we got down to some serious house hunting. Lesley & David gave us an enormous amount of help and support. After much searching and some disappointments not to mention a lot of rubbish we were shown,  we finally found (in our last week) what we wanted in Betete several miles north east form here? We are now looking forward to relocating early May.

Discovered a first class restaurant in Fronsac just before Libourne called "Le Bord D'eau" good food, good service, (good company L & D) cannot fault it.

Hope the wine we collect tomorrow is as good as our stay, a very pleasant weekend.

Thanks

25 Oct-31 Oct 2003

Lesley & David

We've had a great time even though the weather has been very mixed, & none of us has been too well.

St Emilion was beautiful and to be able to sit in the sun at lunchtime in the square was perfect ( even though we bought the most expensive bottle of wine we've ever drunk)

The boys have had fun in the games room and feeding the goats - they love pineapple!

Biarritz was also a lovely place to visit - 2 hours away, even though we started off from here in pouring rain it was dry and warm there. Surfers were out and we would like to return in the summer.

The highlight of course was the visit to see Roger's "vines". near Blaye at Chateau Monconseil  Gazin - Françoise gave us an exceptionally good tour and she spoke excellent English.

Many thanks & we hope to see you again.

Dear  Lesley and David

Despite the weather( rain all week) we had a nice time in your house. Enjoying good french wine, beer, the animals and of course each other.

Visits to Bordeaux, St Emilion, the coast made it nice to be in this environment. Floortji and Geertie loved feeding the animals, which convinced us to do something extra with the lawn at home in Vlijmen, Holland.

Perhaps we will be back to swim in the pool or relax in the to be built sauna / Jacuzzi!!

Good luck with all the plans for your house!!

What a fantastic place from which to explore the delights of Aquitaine.

Sr Emilion, Arcachon & Le Porge were favourites along with laying around the wonderful swimming pool.

Oliver (22 months) had a wonderful time playing and feeding the animals. We're sure the chickens will be happy for a rest when we've gone after Oliver's relentless chasing!

The weather for late September has been superb (week 1 - exceptional 28°-30°)

Thanks to David and Lesley of their advice & their assistance during our stay.

Thanks for everything.

Big squiggle picture!

Roughly translated this means " I had a wonderful holiday here, and I've enjoyed myself so much . Especially with the puppies!

By Oliver aged 17 months.

What can we say that hasn't already been said?

The gîte is wonderful, so homely and well equipped. The garden is perfect for a family like ours - two big boys (aged 23 and30) who want to play games constantly, and a baby with the energy of at least 5.

Even when the weather's not so good, there is so much to do in this area, the sand dunes, the aqua park, visits to Cognac distilleries, fishing, the shopping centers; the visits could fill the book!

As far as Lesley and David are concerned we can only reiterate what's already been written. So friendly, helpful and full of information. Thank you for helping to make this such a special holiday.

This is certainly a place we would all come back to and recommend to all who will listen.

PS We're considering investing in our own set of sheep & goats - it would certainly cut down on our waste food!!

16th -30 August 2003

A great two weeks. Fantastic weather, maximum use of the pool - loads of BBQs!

David and Lesley have done a great job on the house, we liked the layout and the decor. The kids loved all the animals, the puppies were the hit of the holiday. Shame we can't smuggle one home!

Thanks Dave for coming in on a free transfer, keep work on that left foot, you might be a player one day!

Thank you David and Lesley for all your help and patience with the kids (5 boys under 11yes plus 1 girl!)

Places visited :-Lake at st Christoly, Blaye, beaches at Lacanau and Le Porge, Bordeaux, St Emilion & the Dune of Pyla. All worth a visit.

I had a great time here, the house is cool and so is the location. I liked all the animals but the puppies were the best. I called one Tiger and she was sold on my second last day here.

We went to the beach 3 times and climbed Europe's biggest sand dune, it was massive! The restaurants were nice too.

Thanks Dave for playing football with us, that left foot is awesome! I still don't believe your nearly 55, you are so more 25!

Thanks Dave and Lesley for being so nice, hope to see you next year.

2nd August - 15th August

This has been a lovely holiday and certainly the best weather we've ever had; the pool was wonderful.

We think the building with its varied rooms would provide a good holiday setting in most seasons. We look forward to returning in a year or so.

We visited Lacanau; St Emilion; Blaye; Bourg; the market in Cavignac.

Our friends François and Sonia visited us here;

We had some very pleasant meals out.

At Lilbourn all of us ate outside overlooking the river;

A select group at L'auberge De LA Vielle Chapelle - grown ups.

The restaurant at Hotel De Ville - all of us.

There's still plenty of things we didn't get round to doing - till next time.

Many thanks to David & Lesley.

I liked this holiday because I met loads of other  people and I went to two different restaurants. I was really lucky this year because I came just as 8 puppies were born. The mother was a golden retriever called Amy. There is one puppy that fell asleep in my arms. I names one minstrel I had no favorites. Thanks David & Lesley for making this a great holiday.

We could fill this paragraph with all the wonderful things this place means to us, but it would have already been written on the previous pages. All my family love this home from home. We shall do our best to return once again next year.

This is a fantastic "holiday house" with all you could possibly  want. Everyone has thoroughly enjoyed spending time here and it's very sad to have to leave! Thank you so much also for your kindness and helpfulness  -I hope hope we weren't a real pain continually asking for more wine and asking for your help over the "stressful time" before the wedding - we couldn't have found a more restful place  ,or more helpful people over everyone coming and going!!

I heard such great things about the fantastic holidays my sister and family had enjoyed here. When I had the opportunity to join them there was no question as I knew it would be a brilliant holiday!

The feeling you get as you look around is one of calm and relaxation. A perfect and beautiful retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Dear David & Lesley

You provided a wonderful retreat from the hustle & crowds at Vinexpo. My only regret is that we had too little time to enjoy the pool and garden. The dinner with your friends was great. The food, wines and conversation were wonderful.

Thank you for all your did to make our stay so enjoyable.

June 14 to June 21,    2003

Dear Lesley and David

Thank you for a wonderful week at your charming house. We all had a good time at the pool, in the games  room, feeding the goats, enjoying the garden. Most of all, we enjoyed your company and your hospitality. The fresh eggs were delicious! Merissa had three at one meal. Thank you also for sharing the champagne, wine and cake with us. It was a fun and relaxing evening sitting around chatting. Next time we hope to return with our cousins. We also hope that you will come and visit us in New York City!

All the best!

David, Ping, Daniel and Merissa

P.S. Here is the recipe of Ping's salmon :

  • First slice  ginger and scallion

  • then cook salmon in microwave for two to three minutes or a little longer if you like it more done.

  • Take it out and put ginger and scallion on top of the fish.

  • Heat some cooking oil in a frying pan till it is very hot.

  • Pour heated oil onto ginger and scallion

  • Add a little soy sauce.

Voila, Ping's salmon is done.

Enjoy!

We hope to come back to the gite soon!

‘translation’ – more or less- .

Did you like it? yes! My friends came and we had ping-pong and tablefootbal (???) and there were even more things to play. It is a big house with a very large garden. I’d like very much the secret room in de garden so you could play hide and seek very well.

We did a lot of swimming and feet the animals. We regret that our parents could go out every day, cause we preferred to stay at home.

Do you like to return sometimes?

YESSSS! And we really do so, because my parents told us that they think it is fantastic over here and one week was to short.

Thank you very much for your very kind hospitality and for all your local knowledge. Its been a hectic house hunting mission but at least the weather has been sunny most of  the time. We have not managed to find a house yet but have enjoyed looking around this area, and will be back. The children enjoyed Hector's morning visits and feeding the goats with bread. 28th Sept 8th October 02

For a couple of octogenarians with a few creaky bits the new bedroom has been most comfortable. The weather just as planned has been ideal, warm and sunny all week. We have been able to enjoy the grounds in the day time and  sit outside with a glass of something till well after dark. Lesley, David and the animals have made a lovely fuss of us and that's been great. We were invited to be as critical and unbiased as we like but try as we may we cant find anything wrong.

Its an ideal spot, if you don't want to move about too much its all here to enjoy a lovely holiday.

Look behind the shrubs and you will probably find a chicken or a cat, the goats are friendly unless you wear a hat or have no hair.

Thanks you both for a lovely holiday - we will return to Lowestoft on the TGV and Eurostar much refreshed.

Ellie has loved staying in the farmer's house and her swimming has improved masses - she swam her first length here. Meg is besotted by the goats, hens and cats but was disappointed that they didn't eat mushrooms. Amelia got her third tooth and Ted almost crawled. As for the adults we thrived on your  wine and generosity.

Many thanks for allowing the occasional caravan and dog. We have loved our stay.

Great place to stay for our first visit to the Bordeaux region. We loved the swimming pool. Inflatable races and naked volley ball were a highlight!

Had some great trips - The Dune of Pyla is a must (nr Arcachon), just like sunbathing in  the Sahara;

St Emilion is well worth a day out - had a great meal at Dominique's, just off the main square.

Carcans on the coast is well worth a visit. Le Hotel D'ocean does fantastic seafood and the owner does a great Barry White impression.

But for a real treat Auberge de la Vieille Chapelle (Lugon) was something else -booking recommended for the best tables;

To David and Lesley

Thanks for a fantastic holiday, we all had a great time. The Gite was wonderful, all the comforts of home and then some. The animals were great, especially Polly and Ester the two chickens you were looking after. They were at the door every morning waiting for their breakfast. It became the first thing to do in the mornings, feed the chickens. Thanks for all the info, directions and recommendations on places to visit, it made the week that much more enjoyable.

We’ve been back in the UK for a week and wish we were still out there with you. We met up for lunch on Sunday and the main topic of conversation was the holiday and when were we going back.

Our evening with you on Sunday was the perfect start to the holiday. Amazing that Lesley was at school with Simon, and that she recognized him. Well admitted to it !!!! Hope we didn’t drink all your supplies.

Chateaux Haut Maco, which you recommended, was well worth a visit. Anne was very helpful in explaining the wine making progress and it made for an easier time at the smaller Chateaux as we then knew the routine.

Our days golfing went well and we played a very nice parkland course at Pessac. Lovely course and a very good club house with bar snacks and a restaurant. About £20 a round and well worth it.

Visited Dune du Pilat and Arcachon, Both are worth a visit, though visit the dune first as it’s a tiring walk to the top but well worth it and you’ll need a sit down and a drink after, some great bars and restaurants on the promenade. Good value too.

We really enjoyed having you round for a BBQ on the Thursday evening, it was as if we had known you for years. I think we had enough food and the Bananas with chocolate and baileys and the brandied strawberries cooked on the barbi seemed to go down well with the girls. Next year  ( I’ll be booking up shortly) I’ll do the full works and bring some marinades and gear with me.

The visit to the walled town of St. Emilion was beautiful we visited the wine cellars of Châteaux Cotes Nuit which was fantastic we’ve never seen so much wine in one place. The wine shops were good as long as you didn’t let them push you into buying. (thanks for the warning) We found a really good one, very helpful, no pressure, and ended up spending loads, but well worth it. Couldn’t quite convince Jo that we needed a bottle of 1938 Chateaux Cotes de Nuit at about £1500 a bottle, still we can dream can’t we.

The girls enjoyed using the pool even if it was a little early in the year. Mind you with the temperature reaching 33 on Thursday it could have been the middle of summer.

We will definitely be coming again next year and hopefully will bring the rest of the gang along.

Thanks again for a wonderful week and we’ll see you next year

Excellent accommodation, house & garden are perfect. We enjoyed feeding the chickens in the morning. (Thanks for the fresh eggs)

You're the perfect hosts. The local knowledge is very helpful. The vineyards you recommended were great (even if the girls did want to buy everything in sight). We stocked up but unfortunately drank it all over the next couple of days; Brilliant holiday and look forward to the next one.

3 days - end Feb (Sorry -so laid back now, can't work out the date!)

Lovely gite, lovely welcome. Lesley & David have been so kind in offering their advice - we are house hunting - and we hope we will live up to their standards! The kids have enjoyed their stay so much that Katherine wants us to pack a goat or two....

16th-23rd February '02

Even in February this area is wonderful. Crisp bright mornings, sunny days for exploring and even the rainy days were good for resting and relaxing. It was very difficult to concentrate and focus on the reason for coming here, so much wine and so little time but in the end we managed to find a few cases of wine to take back. Hopefully enough too last till our next trip.

The cottage was great, very well equipped and warm and welcoming as were the owners Lesley & David.

Dec 29th –30th January 02

Our third visit and our first one in the winter. Just as pleasurable as the summer. So many interesting things to do. Lesley & David took us to the Marie for a drink & aperitifs to welcome in the New Year. We spent New Years Eve with Lesley & David and saw in the new year twice! (English & French time)  a lovely evening. We were also taken to Blaye Citadel for the “Marché Aux Vins” a wine tasting experience  on a grand scale. We also had the added bonus of the French sales, many things reduced by 50%.My sister came with us this time so it is always nice to see things through “ other eyes”. Our holiday is now drawing to a close and it has been well worth coming this time of the year. We  even sat in the sun  for lunch on a couple of days. Will be returning again in June with daughter + family. Roll on June!!

PS When we arrived the new room was just a “shell” when we left it was a charming bedroom + ensuite . Well done David & Lesley.  Cant wait to see it in June! Anita

I can only endorse everything my sister (above) has said – it has all been a marvellous holiday and thank you  Lesley & David  for including me in your welcome/ I love the whole area and have thoroughly enjoyed my visit. My very  best wishes for your continuing success.

PS Weather good, only two days rain and even  had several lunches by the pool – unbelievable for January.

20-27 October 2001

IF you like goats, dogs, cats, sheep and chickens  you’re sure to like Lesley & David’s animals. I found myself by the field most  of the time feeding Rhiannon, Flossy (goats) Sophie, Clover and Teddy (sheep). They are very friendly and would not harm anyone, they are so gentle. The five cats are all very cute. Charlie : I found him the most friendly  out of the five, he visits a lot. He used to sit with my mum, dad and I (quietly).

Hamish : I found him talkative if he wanted to be. He rarely visits. Harry : I only saw him once but he is very shy and he ran away from me. He looks like the cat from the Felix adverts/ Lydia : She was shy at first but once she knows you she will like you. Suki : Very timid but she might approach you. As for the chickens there are 11 of them, there are not many with names. They lay delicious eggs which I had as scrambled eggs.  Thanks to David & Lesley as I would not have know this information if they had not talked about the animals (and thanks for the eggs!!!!. I really enjoyed my week here with the animals. David and Lesley made the picture perfect. Thanks again.

  20-27th October 2001

A very sunny week and our daughter ( Maria) swam in the pool today. We just sat around and read enjoying the warmth.

October is always an excellent time to come to France  as you can still catch the last of the summer sun without the crowds & free uncrowded car parks.

Restaurant market square St Emilion very good ( the one  as you come down the slope)

Little train at St Emilion amusing especially the music!

Carrefour at Merignac is by the airport junction 11B on a big trading estate – This is essential knowledge if you don’t enjoy towing the autoroute –Leclerc at Carbon Blanc – okay and easy to find.

Pyla (dune) sand is very big- you need to see it to believe it!!

We have has a super week – don’t want to go home! Lesley & David thanks for the gite and your enjoyable conversation.

12th October 2001

Unfortunately we were here for just 5 days – house hunting! Our stay was spoilt by someone having to be taken to hospital. But this was when David &Lesley’s  help, hospitality and friendliness came to the fore. We could not have coped without their help. The kindness they showed was definitely above and beyond the call of duty” and for this we sincerely thank them.

Happily all went well at the hospital and we were all reunited two days later (No waiting to be seen, no laying on trolleys in corridors and friendly, professional assistance from the doctors and nursing staff – what’s going wrong with the NHS!) Thoroughly enjoyable stay and we will recommend this gite highly – that is until we open in direct competition with them: Thank you both very much.

The Trethewey & Bickham families

The owners appear to have taken on the French way of life with gusto, this has enabled them to introduce us to many of their French friends and neighbours adding greatly to the enjoyment of the holiday. Such introductions have been a real bonus -not offered by their competitors in my experience. A great choice, congratulations to Debbie, my wife & jenny for this decision.

Malcolm T

Thanks to David & Lesley for entertaining us on several occasions culminating in a barbeque that went on until 3 am with French neighbours who were lovely. Great gite & gardens, love the animals. Bonus having owners on site. Thanks for a great holiday.

Deb T

We wonder why the French live longer than us , after 2 weeks here its easy to see why, much more relaxed, good food, wine and company? A great way of life that we had a chance to sample. The only  warning I can give is WATCH OUT FOR THE PING PONG it can shorten your life! (David will explain)

Chris

Newton Abbot, Devon

A great place to relax and watch your cultural, social  and waistline expand.

Thanks to David & Lesley we have the opportunity to sample local social life. We will need until next year to recover!

The resident menagerie  provided entertainment both for ourselves and our own menagerie (the children)

Many thanks Lesley & David  for a wonderful and memorable holiday

Jenny

I loved Watson and I liked the goats. The hens were fun to feed but the cockerel  would not eat the bread. My favourite cat must be Charlie. The other cats are really kind;

Stephen

I had a lovely time and the owners were really kind to me and the other  children that came on this holiday and I will miss them lots. I also loved the animals and the ball room was excellent.  The swimming pool had lots of things with it to make it more fun. This has been a great holiday for all of us.

Thanks you! (12)

7-21 July 2001

This has been a great visit for all of us. The garden especially has been a real pleasure, and the children couldn’t have had more fun with the animals, the games room  and evening games of hide and seek. We will always remember this as the house where Megan swam her first length  without arm bands. For me the garden room has been wonderful  and had made this a house  you can thoroughly enjoy even in bad weather;

Al the best to you both, and all the best for the future plans for your house.

Returning after  last year’s stay was an essential  thing  due to the accommodation for us five, the nature of out hosts and the restful atmosphere that there is – but plenty of scope to expand if the need is there. Again we’ve enjoyed the company of David & Lesley  and hope they recover from our Steven’s attentions. He’s probably added a few pound in weight to the sheep.

We came to enjoy a holiday and buy wine;  we did both with considerable success. The weather was a challenge, rain in quantity but two sunny and very pleasant days. We return to England with happy memories of many holiday pleasures. 11 am on the 11th  of the 11th 00 was a moving and pleasurable experience in the warm company  of the village people.

12th August – 26th August 2000

Thanks very much to both   Lesley & David for such a welcoming greeting after a 20 hour journey from Cornwall, yes we may be stupid for driving it all in one go.

Pool was amazing, we spent the first three days lazing around in the 40° sunshine! Dune of Pyla was well worth a visit but recommend using the steps if you are carrying stuff to take to the beach beyond.

St Emilion is beautiful – great wines with loads off tastings! Restaurant Cartagen in in St André de Cubzac  is  affordable and delicious. Set menu at 68f.

All the animals in the garden kept the children well occupied – and they enjoyed their walk with Laura & Hattie!

Alibi park is great for kids over 1.3 metres- under that there are limited rides. Car  parking is charged at 25f plus the entrance fee. The only problem was the food queues – 1 ½ hours  for burgers. Have left vouchers for cheaper tickets.

A big thanks to both of you for helping us with the buying of the magnums and introducing us to Malaga- we bought 8 bottles! We’ve had a fantastic holiday!!

Many thanks

Boom!! Canoeing – see leaflet, the pool and the local wine.

What to say about the place apart from absolutely fantastic; A lovely house. The pool was fantastic. (The kids loved it) and David & Lesley were superb hosts Thank you very much. What can I say but – fantastic!!!

A wonderful two weeks has unfortunately come to an end  all too quickly. The weather has been incredible , warm and sunny every day. The wine tasting have all been of a very high standard; Farther a field a visit to Remy Martin in Cognac  was excellent. Locally Chateau Haut Macô , a visit arranged by David & Lesley exceptional – very informative and super wine. Market in Bourg on Sundays and Blaye on Saturdays are well worth a visit

Thank you for an excellent time, Lesley & David  made us feel at home. The weather was great, sun most of the holiday. Both families loved the pool and BBQs every night. Plenty of places to visit, recommend the zoo at Royan and the beech at Le Porge. The local wine is excellent, try David & Lesley ‘s recommendations,  also try the wine from the house with the ivy just up the road. If you do get bad weather try the following hypermarkets : Auchan in Bordeaux, Carrefour in Merignac and a massive le Clerc which is south of bordeaux. (you can do five in one day). Accommodation excellent, we don’t want to leave. See you soon.

We combined our holiday with searching Bordeaux for an apartment for Nicola  who will be a student there for the

97/98 academic year. This was also our first gite experience. The Baillargeau Barn lived up to and exceeded our expectations. It was always such a pleasure to return here each evening  after excursions into Bordeaux and the surrounding countryside.

Our hosts Lesley & David (Danny too) were brilliant Never intruded but always willing to provide information, advice and practical help. The circumstances of our stay led us to take  advantage of their goodwill more than would normally occur (and we that that we did not impose too much!) but Lesley & David were   stinting in their willingness to help  and always such good company.

We confirm previous good reports on L’Aucat, now selling pizzas as well as meals. The food is good in quality and satisfying as well as excellent value. We particularly enjoyed St Emilion and Libourne – but we saw a great deal of Bordeaux itself would recommend its many attractions and places of interest. Especially if you can enjoy them at a more leisurely pace than ours!
