The town was named after the monk Émilion,
who settled in a hermitage carved

Animal figures carved deep into
the rock face. engravings of horses, ibex, mammoths, and bovines, and
various types of deer.
They date from the between 33,000
and 26,000 BC. They predate Lascaux. |

The Medoc

follows the left bank of the Gironde River through the

Chateaux are magical places to visit.
Stroll through the vines, discover the cellars and taste world-class
wine. Most chateaux open their doors to visitors all year but you will
